Chesapeake Point Apartments

Chesapeake Point is a rental community that has 100 townhome, one bedroom flats and family cottages in San Mateo. They have made drastic efforts in 2011 to reduce their waste stream and increase their recycling efforts, including Chesapeake staff supporting the program by sending monthly emails, newsletters and onsite help to all resident with the program. Their staff was trained to recognize any problems and immediately make the corrections needed for the program to succeed. In addition, they provided a RethinkWaste Recycle Buddy Bag to each resident as part of their move-in kit. Since they opened in 2004, they had a 10-yard compactor serviced once a week.. With the help of Recology San Mateo County, compactor was replaced with 4 3-yard garbage bins serviced once a week and increased recycling to 3 3-yard bins serviced two times a week. This was a reduction in trash of approximately 28 yards of garbage per week.
