One-third of our household waste comes from product packaging. Although some packaging is necessary for health and shelf-life reasons, some manufacturers overpackage products, which result in higher costs for consumers.

Peninsula Regent San Mateo has been working towards improving the recycle program at their property through BizSMART and by use of the RethinkWaste Recycle Buddy Bag program. Peninsula Regent keeps residents informed by holding presentations for residents interested in learning more about the recycle program. Peninsula Regent currently has one 6-yard and three 2-yard recycle containers collected three times each week and two 96-gallon recycle carts. Most of the residents participate in the program. Peninsula Regent also received internal recycle containers for their kitchen staff. They also play Recology’s how-to DVD on the recycling and compost services for their residents as commercials on the TVs in the main rooms.
