Sustainable Building

Recycling C&D materials is one component of a more holistic practice often called "sustainable" or "green" building. Sustainable buildings use materials and resources more efficiently. Green building practices can include salvaging dimensional lumber from structures, using reclaimed aggregates, or designing the structure in a way that requires less material. Other sustainable building techniques include designing the structure for more natural light, adding photovoltaic solar systems for energy generation, or including solar water heating to reduce energy consumption.
