Transforming the Way We Think about Trash
With spring upon us and you're thinking green...the St Patrick's Day kind, why not think about some green in your pocket...the money kind.
Reduce :: Are you a coffee junkie? Keep the habit, cut the cup.
Instead of a disposable paper or foam cup, sip that triple-shot soy latte out of your own travel mug or tumbler. Hanging out for awhile? Order your drink "for here" in the café's own ceramic or glass mug.
Small changes make a big difference, especially for daily drinkers. Individually, one cup of coffee purchased everyday in a disposable container contributes about 22.75 pounds of waste per year.
What can you do? Simple, easy changes - start bringing your own mug or request a ceramic mug from your favorite café when staying in. You can even get a discount at many cafes if you BYO.
And, convert your disposable cups at your coffee pot at work into mugs. People will enjoy warming their hands against the ceramic!

Reuse :: In the mood for spring cleaning? Host an office supply swap meet.
You've had it...all those paper clips and sticky notes are stacking up in your drawer.
What can you do? Organize an office supply swap meet. Pick a date and time for people to bring their excess supplies and exchange them for things they need. Then, leftover items can either go back on the office supply cabinet shelves, saving you money on your next purchase, or in a box and donated to a school or nonprofit. Everyone wins.
Recycle :: Put more green in your pocket by recycling.
Did you know that you Allied Waste offers recycling at no extra charge for its garbage customers? If you move bottles, cans, cardboard, and paper from your garbage can to the recycling cart, you'll be reducing your trash, and save money, moola, plain hard cash. And, you'll be helping the environment because fewer resources are used to create materials from recyclables than from virgin materials.
So, put a little spring in your step and green in your pocket by recycling more and throwing out less. To see examples of businesses saving money, see RethinkWaste.org.
Do your part to help the planet: reduce, reuse, and recycle!
