Appliance Recycling

Most major home appliances contain about 75% steel, which is easily recycled. The Steel Recycling Institute reports that in a typical year, the steel industry saves enough energy by recycling to power about 18 million households for one year. Appliances are just too valuable to landfill!

Whether you’re replacing a broken appliance or just upgrading to a new model, you can get rid of appliances (working or not) in a number of convenient and environmentally responsible ways.

For working appliances, consider donation. Many thrift stores and charities accept large and small appliances.

For non-working appliances, you can take advantage of an On-Call Bulky Item Pick-Up service that is provided by Allied to each household twice per year as part of your regular garbage collection service. As part of your rates, you are entitled to two (2) On-Call Bulky Item Pick-Ups per year at no extra charge. You can set out one large appliance per each Bulky Item Pick-Up collection service.

Or you can take appliances to the Shoreway Recycling and Disposal Center at 225 Shoreway Road, San Carlos. Fees apply for large appliances. Call Allied at (650) 592-2411 for details.
